PODCAST #27 8-1-08
WELCOME TO THE 27th EDITION OF THE HEALTH AND HAPPINESS PODCAST
Home HEPA air filters: Macadamia lowers cholesterol: Exercises for moderate neck pain with no medical cause:
Fine particles in the air from candles, cooking, rubber tires running on the road and charcoal grilling etc. can cause inflammation in the blood vessels, worsening heart and lung disease. High-Efficiency Particle Air (HEPA) Filters can reduce inflammation and improve blood vessel function. Do not confuse HEPA filters with negative ion filters. Ion filters collect particles on an electrified grid which is good but in doing this it generates ozone which is bad for the lungs.
In a five week, study 25 men and women with slightly elevated cholesterol were randomly assigned to the macadamia nut diet (1.5 ounces/day of macadamia nuts) or an average American diet. Total fat in the diets was the same; only the percentages of saturated and monounsaturated fats differed. At five weeks, the macadamia nut diet was associated with a 9% reduction in both serum total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) compared with controls. Other cholesterol measures, such as the ratio of LDL to beneficial HDL also improved significantly after the macadamia nut diet.
