Migraines: Vitamin C
Migraine suffers have one thing in common, that is the pain of a migraine. People differ in the cause, treatment severity etc. of migraine.
Many migraine suffers have food triggers. Tyramine is a trigger for certain individuals. A good idea is to keep a food diary to see what you ate a day or two before the migraine hit. Alcohol can cause problems in certain sensitive people. Alcohol can cause dehydration since it is a diuretic. Drink water with your alcohol. Pure ethanol usually does not cause headache except in excess. It is the other alcohols produced in fermentation that causes the headache. That is why people that drink double distilled vodka get fewer headaches.
Caffeine has pros and cons. caffeinated beverages can help relieve headache pain. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor and stimulant. But it can cause a rebound effect. If consuming more than two to three cups of coffee causes rebound headaches then cut back.
A small study at the University of Cincinnati found that fish oil capsules reduced frequency and severity of migraines compared to a placebo.
A teaspoonful of honey at bedtime cut kids’ coughing nearly in half: an over the counter cough syrup had little effect.
According to the CDC, stroke is the leading cause of death and a major cause of disability. A recent study of more than 20,600 British men and women who were followed for nearly 10 years revealed that those with the highest blood levels of vitamin C had a 42% reduced risk of stroke. Another British study found that those who had a high vitamin C level, didn’t smoke, exercised regularly and consumed moderate amounts of alcohol live up to 14 healthy years longer then those that do not practice these healthy behaviors.
