MEDITATION FOR HEALTH

While moving around in the world we use our conscious mind, while many functions of our body are controlled by our unconscious mind. The unconscious mind’s autonomic nervous system controls blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and many other functions, not normally under the control of the conscious mind.

Meditation is a known way to influence the unconscious mind and the autonomic nervous system. By learning to meditate you can improve your health, happiness and well-being.

It is very easy to meditate. There is no wrong way to meditate. There are many forms of meditation. Praying and day dreaming, are forms of meditation. Any time you are focusing your mind on a single thought or thing you are meditating. The brain is always producing brain waves; these brain waves are of different frequencies. When you are awake you are in the Beta brain wave frequency of 8 to 12 cycles a second. When you are meditation your brain waves go into the Alpha frequency of 4 to 7 cycles a second.

Get a timer that you can set for 3 or more minutes. Sit down in a comfortable chair and set the timer for 3 minutes. Close your eyes and relax. Breathe slowly and deeply in and out through your nose. As you breathe out say to your self in your mind  “ Every day in every way I am healthier and healthier.” That is all there is to meditation.

If while meditating you fall asleep don’t worry when you awaken continue with the meditation. If other thoughts come into your mind finish the thought and then go back to meditating.

If you can visualize while meditating this improves your result. You can either visualize the words you are thinking or picture in you mind some thing to strengthen your meditation.

As you meditate more and more, less and less thoughts will come into your mind and the time in meditation will seem to pass faster and faster.

When you are comfortable with 3 minutes of meditation you can increase the time in 2-minute increments to 15 minutes. Or do other 3-minute meditations like improving your heart, your memory, your happiness or any other thing you want to improve.
